EFAA Publishes Press Release in Response to FIFA's Claims
On February 1st, FIFA claimed that it held “constructive talks with agent associations from all around the world.”
In response, EFAA has published a press release today. You can read the contents below:
FIFA IS GIVING THE WORLD OF FOOTBALL FALSE INFORMATION AGAIN
As the longest-running agent association, with over 1,000 members across 5 continents, the European Football Agents Association (EFAA) dismisses FIFA’s forthcoming regulations and the regulatory process in totality.
According to FIFA, inviting a few individual agents to visit their headquarters for a discussion constitutes “consultation,” while they continue to ignore the requests of the largest associations to meet in an official capacity.
FIFA has once again tricked the football world into believing it is the savior of the industry, using agents as scapegoats for its political mission. They choose to create an unjustified 3% fee cap that will destroy the careers of thousands of small agents worldwide so that they can look good in press headlines the next day.
EFAA has always supported issues such as bringing back a licensing system, accreditation and continuous professional development, greater protection for minor players, arbitration, and transparency.
Yet, we will not be blindsided by a body that claims itself competent to regulate our profession, when that same body had to be explained to how a transfer deal even works, and what an agent actually does to intermediate a deal.
We will remain open to consultation, as we always have been, but only if it is in an official capacity.
